SACO... It's Happening!
2020 was not the year we at Saco Main Street had anticipated. One year ago we were planning for Bark in the Park...a Canine Celebration, the 50th Annual Sidewalk Art Festival, our Classic Car Show and Music in the Parking Lot when the whole world changed.
Like everyone we had to grapple with this pandemic and pivot. Instead of festivals and large events we had to understand and work with new concepts like Zoom, remote learning, homeschooling, social distancing, masks, and sanitizing everything. So instead of celebrations we went to work with our local businesses to help them understand what they could and couldn't do, how to apply for PPP loans and grants, what do do about curbside delivery and developing outdoor dining options. We developed signage with humor to remind us all about social distancing, distributed masks and even had a Corvid acceptable "Scarecrow's on Parade" fall event. In addition we sponsored our Flowers on Main Street and really lite up our Main Street for the holiday season. We really need a little brightness during these cold months.
We are proud of our businesses in our downtown and the residents of Saco who have adapted to this "new normal"! During this pandemic we have had six new businesses open in our downtown with a couple more to come!
We will get through this together!
As we enter 2021 vaccines are starting to be administered and it appears that the infection rate is starting to go down. We are not out of the woods yet and this is no time to lower our guard but we are optimistic.
With that said we are planning for our traditional events realizing that they may not be the exact same as they always have been but following the Governor's lead and Maine CDC advice we will plan for 2021. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the summer season!
